Sultamicillin tosilate
Indications/Uses
Upper resp tract infections including sinusitis, otitis media, epiglottitis & tonsillitis, lower resp tract infections including bacterial pneumonia & bronchitis, UTI including pyelonephritis, intra-abdominal infections including peritonitis, cholecystitis, endometritis & pelvic cellulitis, bacterial septicemia, skin & skin structure, bone & joint & gonococcal infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn weighing ≥30 kg 750 mg bid. Duration of treatment: 5-14 days which may be extended depending on the type & severity of infection. Noncomplicated gonococcal infection 2.25 g as single dose. Most infections Continue therapy for min of 48 hr. Group A β-hemolytic streptococcal infections Continue therapy for at least 10 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypesensitivity.
Special Precautions
History of penicillin hypersensitivity &/or hypersensitivity to multiple allergens. Discontinue if allergic reaction occurs. Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea & colitis. Overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms. Periodically evaluate renal, hepatic & hematologic status (prolonged treatment). Prolonged or repeated use. Liver or renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Rash, itching, pemphigus vulgaris, angioedema, dermatitis, urticaria, allergic reaction, anaphylaxis/anaphylactic shock, anaphylactoid reaction, superinfections, adult resp distress syndrome; vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, loose stools, epigastric distress, melena, abdominal pain/cramps; taste disturbances, ototoxicity, dizziness, drowsiness/sedation; kidney function disorder; dyspnea.
